Can't I save money by renting a rug doctor and doing it myself?

Although you can rent a rug doctor for around $25 to $40 dollars you will probably regret it! Here are some of the disadvantages.
  • They damage your carpet. Rug Doctors and other portable machines do not have the vacuum power to suck the water and dirt out of the carpet. The moisture they leave behind causes damage to the carpet backing and subflooring. Many times we've seen carpet that was only a few years old completely seperated from the backing because it had been cleaned several times with portable carpet cleaners. Our truck-mount machines have 10 to 20 times the vacuum power of the portable machines.
  • They don't do a good job. Rug Doctor machines and other portable carpet cleaners do not produce sufficient pressure to get the tough dirt and stains out. A typical portable machines produces 100 to 150 psi of pressure. Our truck-mount machines blast out 1500 psi of pure cleaning power!
  • They do not heat the water. ┬áHeat is the most important component. Heat weakens the physical bond between the dirt or stains to the various surfaces to which the dirt is sticking. The hotter the water the greater the cleaning power. Our machines operate at 240 degrees.
  • They are a lot of work! Call us and let us do the hard work for you. We'll get your carpet clean and dry for less money than you would expect.

WHAT IS THE BEST CLEANING METHOD?
Hot water extraction (steam cleaning) is the best cleaning method available. Shaw Industries and Mohawk Carpet, the two largest carpet manufactures, require regular steam cleaning as a condition of their warranties. Carpet Shine uses hot water extraction.

  1. A cleaning agent is applied to the carpet and allowed dwell time - time to work into your carpet. Dwelling time breaks down dirt and any other substances so they can be removed easily.
  2. Following pre-spray and dwell time, suspended soil must be flushed from the carpet using hot water extraction equipment. Powerful jets breakdown the suspended soils/spots with hot water and are immediately extracted and removed from the carpet. A heated solution requires less solution, minimizing residue and dry time. Our machine runs at a constant 250 degrees; yet is still safe on all synthetic fibers. Heat can be turned down for wool and other delicate carpet and rugs.
  3. The hot water contains a rinsing agent that neutralizes the pre-spray, leaves the carpet soft, residue-free, and in a neutral ph. This leaves a nearly virgin, soil-free fiber that resists re-soiling much as it did when new.

HOW OFTEN & WHY SHOULD YOU CLEAN YOUR CARPET?

  1. According to the Carpet and Rug Institute, carpet can hold as much as one pound of soil per square foot before it is noticed.
  2. A CLEAN CARPET LASTS LONGER. Cleaning your carpet reduces wear by removing fine & large dirt particles that scratch and dull your carpet accelerating wear.
  3. IT'S A HEALTHY CHOICE - Carpet is one of the largest filters in your home. Dust, soil, and other contaminants get trapped in your carpet. "Every time carpets and fabrics are emptied of their pollution build-up through professional cleaning methods, there is a health benefit." * EPA
  4. IT'S RECOMMENDED! Many carpet warranties require steam cleaning on a regular basis. It's recommended that you clean your carpet every 6 to 18 months before it shows soiling! TIP: Move a piece of furniure covering your carpet to see the difference between clean and dirty carpet .

IS YOUR PROCESS TRULY RESIDUE FREE AND WHY IS THAT IMPORTANT?
This is the most important step of carpet cleaning.
Carpets cleaned by Esteem Carpet Cleaning stay cleaner longer because we leave no residue behind.

Often, carpet-care professionals will leave a residue that can re-soil your carpet quickly - even if the cleaning solutions claim to be residue-free. The problem is that cleaning solutions often are rinsed improperly from the carpet. The cleaning solution residue attracts soil, making the carpet dirty again sooner and difficult to clean in the future.

Carpet Shine uses a powerful and detergent-free pre-treatment to brighten textiles and destroy microorganisms. Our pre-spray is designed not to attract particles, preserving the texture and appearance of your carpet. Our cleaning process uses a textile rinse to flush any residue left by previous cleaners from your carpet. Even if residues were left from previous cleanings, Carpet Shine gives your carpet a fresh start.

The Carpet Shine cleaning process leaves a nearly virgin, soil free fiber that resists re-soiling very much as it did when new.

HOW LONG WILL IT TAKE FOR MY CARPET TO DRY?
Drying time is affected by humidity, airflow and type of carpet. Depending on the time of year, heat or air conditioning can speed the drying process up. It typically takes 3 to 12 hours depending on the ariables.

HOW LONG DO I HAVE TO WAIT TO WALK ON MY CARPET?
You may walk on your carpet with clean feet, socks or shoes. It is always best to keep traffic on the wet carpet to a minimum. Extra caution should be used when walking to hard surfaces. They can be quite slippery. The carpet must be 100% before moving furniture back.

IS TEFLON FABRIC PROTECTION REALLY WORTH THE EXTRA COST?
Fabric protection helps your carpet by making stains and spots easier to remove. However, it is not as effective against soiling. If you have heavy soiling in a one year period, more frequent cleanings may be a better value.

WILL MY CARPETS RESOIL FASTER AFTER MY FIRST CLEANING?
Our modern technology will rinse virtually all cleaning agents out of your carpet, leaving no residue, so dirt cannot be attracted. This technology leaves nearly virgin, soil free fiber that resists re-soiling very much as it did when new.

WON'T WATER RUIN MY CARPET?
No, most modern carpet is water resistant. Of the limited amount of water we do use, 95% of it will be removed. The problem refers to carpet cleaners with under-powered machines that leave the carpet soaked for days.

WHY DO SOME SPOTS REAPPEAR AFTER PROFESSIONAL CLEANING?
If contaminants have absorbed into the carpet backing or the pad, spots can resurface over time by "wicking" or migrating up through the carpet fibers. If they re-appear within 30 days we will gladly re-clean the spots.

DOESN'T CLEANING YOUR CARPET TOO OFTEN DAMAGE IT?
Cleaning your carpet removes dirt/soil that acts like sandpaper which dulls and scratches the fibers resulting in accelerated wear. There is no such thing as cleaning your carpet too often unless the wrong method is used. The steam extraction method, when performed correctly, is gentler than dry vacuuming and is recommended by many carpet mills.

WHY DOES MY CARPET RESOIL FASTER NOW THAT IT IS OLDER?
When your carpet is manufactured it is often treated with a protective coating that resists soils and stains. Overtime this protection wears off and therefore it will resoil faster than when it was new.  Improper cleaning of the carpet can also cause it to resoil faster. Many do-it-yourself carpet cleaning machines as well as some professionals will leave soap residues in the carpet that attract soil. Carpet Shine's process leaves absolutely no residue. To help your carpet stay cleaner longer, like when it was new, we recommend regular cleanings before you can see soil. We also recommend applying Teflon Fabric Protector after each cleaning to replace the worn off protection that was applied at the carpet mill.
